[英文] 三者易混肴或難釐清字彙

喬今天要分享三組本身也曾搞混的字彙組,相信各位同學可能也曾持有相同疑問。所以趕緊來閱讀今天的分享吧!



imply & infer
imply (V.) 暗示; 暗指
[to communicate an idea or feeling without saying it directly]
e.g. Are you implying that I’m fat?
你在暗示我很胖嗎?

infer (V.) 推斷; 推論; 推理
[to form an opinion or guess that something is true because of the information that you have]
e.g. What do you infer from her refusal?
你從她的拒絕中能推斷出什麼?

✃ imply為句子本身的意思,infer為延伸意義

comprise & compose
comprise (V.) 包含; 包括; 構成; 組成
e.g. The course comprises a class book, a practice book and an audio tape.
這門課的教材包括一冊課本、一本練習用書和一盒錄音帶

compose (V.) 組成 ; 作曲; 創作(樂曲、詩歌); ()
[to produce music, poetry or formal writing]
e.g. The music was specially composed for the film.
這音樂是專門為該電影創作的
*be composed of 由...所組成
implicit & explicit
implicit (adj.) 不明說的; 含蓄的
[suggested but not communicated directly]
e.g. He interpreted her comments as an implicit criticism of the government.
他將她的評論理解為對政府的含蓄批評

explicit (adj.) 清楚明白的; 明確的; 不含糊的 [clear and exact] e.g. I gave her very explicit directions how to get here.
我明確地告訴她這裏怎麼走

✃ “im”在內的: 內斂-> 含蓄 ; “ex”在外的: 外放->清楚明白
