◆progress
(1) 進步; 發展 (n.) [U]

e.g. Technological progress has been so rapid over the last few years.

在最近幾年中，科技進步如此迅猛

e.g. I’m not making progress with my Spanish.

我的西班牙語沒有多大的進步

e.g. The doctor said that she was making good progress (=getting better after a medical operation or illness).

醫生說她的情況正在好轉

e.g. The recent free elections mark the next step in the country’s progress towards democracy.

最近的自由選舉顯示該國又朝民主邁進了一步

* make progress = progress 前進; 進步

* in motion = in progress 工作中; 運轉中

* in progress = underway 前進; 進行中

* innovative progress 開拓進展

(2) 前進; 增長(n.) [U]

e.g. Creeping is a slow method of progression.

爬是一種很慢的行進方式

e.g. No progress simply means regression.

不進則退

* impede = to hamper the progress of.. 阻礙..

(3) 進化(n.) [U]

e.g. No system can ensure spiritual progress.

沒有系統可以確保精神的進化

* in progress = evolving 前進的; 形成中; 進化中

(4) 發展; 進步; 促進 (V.)

e.g. Are you progressing in your piano studies?

你的琴藝有進步嗎？

e.g. The disease progressed slowly.

這疾病散步(發展)得很慢

e.g. The wagon train progressed through the valley.

這個四輪貨運馬車在山谷行進得很慢

e.g. As the play progressed, the leading man grew more inaudible.

當戲劇在進行中，男主角變得更加聽不到

e.g. Drugs can slow down the progression of the disease.

藥物能減緩疾病的惡化

e.g. The novel follows the progression of a woman from youth to middle age.

e.g. She’d always worked with old people so becoming a nurse was a logic progression.

△progressive (adj.) 逐漸的; 漸進的

[developing or happening gradually]

e.g. There’s been a progressive decline in the standard of living over the past few years.

最近幾年的生活水準每況愈下

* a progressive disease = a chronic disease 慢性病

△progressively (adv.) 逐漸地 [gradually]

e.g. My eyesight has got progressively worse over the years.

這些年來我的視力越來越差了
