[英文] ”改善、改進、使變好、增強”字彙整理

喬今天要分享的是非常重要的「改善」字彙整理，英文作文裡面這類字彙在任何題目幾乎皆是高頻率使用字！日常對話中也是重點使用字彙，喬在近日的寫作中感受深切！幾乎所有改善字彙都是及物動詞，各位同學可以比照其例句學習喔！

ameliorate (Vt.) 使變好; 改善; 改進

[to make a bad or unpleasant situation better]

例: Foreign aid is badly needed to ameliorate the effects of the drought.
急需外援以緩解乾旱所造成的災情

*amelioration (n.) 改善; 改進

refine (V.) (尤指去除不需要的雜質而) 精煉; 提煉; 提純; 改進; 完善; 使精練

(1) [to make something pure or improve something, especially by removing unwanted material]

例: Crude oil is industrially refined to purify it and separate out the different elements, such as benzene.

原油經過工業提煉來提純並且分離出諸如苯之類的不同元素

(2) [to improve an idea, method, system, etc. by making small changes]

例: Engineers spent many months refining the software.

工程師們花了數月來完善這個軟體

boost (V.) 改善; 提高; 增強; 推動

[to improve or increase something]

例: The theme managed to boost its audiences by cutting ticket prices.

劇院設法透過降低票價來增加觀眾數量

例: Share prices were boosted by reports of the President’s recovery.

總統康復的報導導致股票價格上揚

例: I tried to boost his ego by praising his cooking.

例: 我讚揚他的廚藝，試圖以此增強他的信心

revamp (V.) 修改; 改進

[to change or arrange something again, in order to improve it]

例: We revamped all the management system, but the business is doing no better than it was before.

我們對管理制度做了徹底改進，但是經營業績並不比從前好

例: The company has spent 5 million USD on a major revamp of it offices.

這間公司已經投入了500萬美元對其辦公場所進行大規模裝修

better (V.) 增強; 增進; 改善

enhance (V.) 提高; 增加; 增強; 增進

[to improve the quality, amount or strength of something]

例: These scandals will not enhance the organization’s reputation.

這些醜聞並不會提高這個組織的聲譽

improve (V.) 改進; 改善

[to (cause something to) get better]

例: He did a lot to improve conditions for factory workers.

他為改善工廠工人的工作條件做了許多工作

perk up (V-phr.) 有所改善; 有起色; 變得更有趣

[to improve or become more exciting.]

例: Share prices perked up slightly before the close of trading.

股票價格在收市前稍微漲了一點

progress (n.) 進步; 進展

[movement to an improved or more developed state, or to a forward position]

例: Technological progress has been so rapid over the last few years.
在最近幾年中，科技進步如此迅猛

例: I’m not making much progress with my Spanish.

我的西班牙語沒多大進步

例: The doctor said that she was making good progress.

醫生說她的情況正在好轉

例: The recent free elections make the next step in the country’s progress towards democracy.

最近的自由選舉顯示該國又朝民主邁進了一步

例: The yacht’s crew said that they were making relatively slow progress northeasterly.

遊艇上的船員說他們正在以較為緩慢的速度向東北方向前進

make headway with (O.) 前進; 取得進展

make strides 進展; 進步

* stride (n.) 進展; 進步 [an important positive development]

例: The West made impressive strides in improving energy efficiency after the huge rises in oil prices during the seventies.
20世紀70年代石油價格大幅上漲之後，西方國家在提高能源使用效率方面有了顯著進步
