[遊學日誌] look forward to/ anticipate的差別？

這篇文章主要說明look forward to與anticipate的差別，許多同學會以為是完全共通的詞彙，其實不然。這兩字彙差別在於look forward to通常接的都是正面詞。但是anticipate中立，後面可接正面亦可接負面。

☛ look forward to  (V.) 盼望; 期望 【正面】
- to feel pleased and excited about something that is going to happen

e.g. I am looking forward to my holidays. 
我很期待我的假期

e.g. Glenn is looking forward to seeing his grandchildren.
葛蘭很期待看到他的孫子們

e.g. Maggie is looking forward to hearing from you.
瑪姬盼望能夠聽聞你的近況


☛ anticipate (V.) 預期; 預料; 預見 【中立】
- to expect something that is going to happen

e.g. We do not anticipate any trouble.
我們不樂見任何問題 (此例明顯看出與look forward to差別)

e.g. Caroline had many difficulties she did not anticipate when conducting the experiment. 
凱瑞蘭在進行實驗時遇到些許她沒預料到的困難

e.g. Max anticipates having several applicants for the job.
麥克斯預計會有好幾個工作應徵者
