喬今天要分享的是常用字【缺點】之整理。敘述人事物必然會分析其優劣,並非所有事情皆為優,所以各位同學一起來學習缺點的不同說法吧:
e.g. One disadvantage of living in the town is the lack of
safe places for the children to play.
住在城裡的一個壞處是缺少可供孩子們放心玩耍的地方
* at a disadvantage 處於劣勢; 處於不利地位
☛ fault (n.) [C]
缺點;
弱點
[a weakness in a person’s character]
e.g. He has many faults, but dishonesty isn’t one of them.
他有很多缺點,但人還算誠實
☛ flaw (n.) 錯誤; 缺點; 缺陷; 瑕疵
[a fault, mistake or weakness, especially one that happens
while something is being planned or made, or which causes something not to be
perfect]
e.g. I returned the material because it had a flaw in it.
我退掉了那塊布料,因為它有瑕疵
☛ pitfall (n.)
隱患;
陷阱
[a likely mistake or problem in a situation]
e.g. The store fell into one of the major pitfalls of small
business, borrowing from suppliers by paying bills late.
那家商店犯了一個小本生意的大錯,那就是供應商那裡先賒帳後付錢
☛ limitation
(n.) 侷限;
局限性
e.g. Living in a flat is all right, but it has its
limitations – for example, you don’t have your own garden.
住公寓不錯,但也有其局限性: 如沒有自己的花園

(n.) 缺點;
弱點;
不利因素
[a disadvantage or the negative part of a situation]
e.g. One of the drawbacks of living with someone is having
to share a bathroom.
和別人合住的缺點之一就是不得不合用洗手間
☛ downside
(n.) 不利的一面;
不利因素
[the disadvantage of a situation]
e.g. The downside of living here, of course, is that it is
expensive.
在這裡生活的不利因素當然就是生活費用很高
☛ snag (n.) 麻煩; 問題; 困難
e.g. We don’t anticipate any snags in/with the negotiations.
我們預料談判不會出現任何麻煩
