esteem + 人
☞ You value a person or his work. 你認為一個人或者他的作品很值得被看重；
respect + 人
☞ You think a person or his action is a good example others should follow. It is possible to respect a person without agreeing with them or liking them.
你認為一個人或者他的行為是他人可遵循的良好示範。你也可能不同意或者不喜歡這個人。
那麼現在來探討 self-esteem 與 self-respect 的差別：
★ self-respect can be defined as the regard a person has for himself.
一個人對於自我的尊重；
1. 有種說法是 self-respect 代表一個個體對自己的接受 (acceptance)
若是一個人沒有 self-respect: He can be bullied (霸凌) and ridiculed (嘲笑).
2. 有 self-respect 代表著一個個體對於自己活著有著一定的標準 (standard) 與準則 (principle)。
★ self-esteem can be defined as an appreciation an individual has for himself.
一個人對於自我的欣賞；
1. self-esteem 可以基於一個個體的能力 (ability) 或技巧 (skill)。這點與 self-respect 出於對自身的認可是不同的；
2. A person with a high self-esteem is conscious of his achievements. And he evaluated himself as higher than others. However, someone with a low self-esteem evaluates himself as lower than others.
一個有個高度自我欣賞的人對於自己的成就是很有意識的。並且他會將自己視為高其他人一等。但是對自我低度欣賞的人，他會將自己視為低人一等；

3. self-esteem 某種程度上是容易因為他人的意見或反應而被影響的，因為他是出於對自身的能力或技巧的欣賞；而 self-respect 通常是對自身的接受認可度有了一定的程度，相對不容易被他人的意見或反應所左右；
